Raggin' Piano Boogie Music

Ragtime is America's first popular, commercial music. It was the first underground club music and had its beginnings in back room bars and bordellos 100 years ago. The music took on several forms, but dance music was the most popular. The New York musicians union at the time issued a proclamation stating that the playing of ragtime would lead to the demoralization of the player. It took on several forms but dance music was the most popular.

Boogie Woogie came after Ragtime in the 30's and 40's and also started out as underground dance music. Originating from the rhythms of working on the railroad, the music expressed the need to let loose after a hard days work. Boogie Woogie was called the Devil's left hand. The name has gone on to merchandising fame to promote a feeling of wild abandonment with uninhibited movement and is characteristic of today's hip-hop music.
